Abstract: The social political context of Thailand directly affects the change in political thinking of Isan writers in literature. During the 1 970s to 2007, importantly in the beginning, Isan writers as a whole presented political ideas with a similar perspective. The focus was on criticizing governmental development policies. There was criticism towards the modernity of the city that affected the way of life and local culture in Isan villages, also towards attacks on politicians and on street politics. Ideas on community culture had become stronger within rural communities As a result, the overall proposals of Isan writers at this time were consistent and harmonious. However, the political thought of Isan writers began to differ markedly in the decade from 2007 onwards, due to the reaction to the political conflict. This makes Isan writers want to redefine the meaning of "Isan" through individual writings and magazines that clearly differ in content. "Chaikha Rueang Sam" focuses on structured politics and "Thang E-San" believes in culture rather than outright consideration of politics. Therefore, the social political context is the most important factor that differentiated the political thinking of Isaan writers in the decade after 2007.
