Abstract: This independent study titled, “Personnel Expectations towards Establishment of the Center for Reconciliation in Chiang Mai University.” aimed at surveying 1) opinions about the structure and operation of the Center for Reconciliation of Chiang Mai University, 2) personnel expectations towards the benefits of establishing the Center for Reconciliation of Chiang Mai University, 3) knowledge and understand of the personnel in Chiang Mai University about settling a dispute, and 4) suggestions about the guidelines, patterns, and operation of the Center for Reconciliation of Chiang Mai University. This quantitative study collected data from 400 personnel of Chiang Mai University by using questionnaires. The results were concluded as follows. The personnel in Chiang Mai University mostly agreed with the structure and operation of the Center for Reconciliation of Chiang Mai University, as in the following : it should be an independent entity, the administration committee are responsible for creating and controlling policies, professors and staff who passed the reconciliation course take the role of the conciliators, there are not over three conciliators in a team, and the agreement is made after the reconciliation is successful to end the problem. In terms of the personnel expectations towards establishment of the Center for Reconciliation in Chiang Mai University, it was found that the samples had high expectations. They expected that reconciliation can bring about a resolution which satisfies both sides and helps to end the conflict faster. Reconciliation also helps both sides to save the costs of making a prosecution with the administrative court in the normal procedure. Moreover, it helps shorten the procedure and lessen the number of disputes presented to the appeal committee and the university. Furthermore, both sides can reunite and reform good relationships with each other. In terms of knowledge and understanding of the personnel, it was revealed that they had a high level of knowledge and understanding about reconciliation. However, the relationship between their knowledge and understanding and expectations towards the establishment of the Center for Reconciliation was at a low level. Therefore, roles, duties, authorities, operations, along with benefits of establishing the Center for Reconciliation at Chiang Mai University should be publicized so that it will be widely known and more people realize its benefits.
