Abstract: | This research aimed to develop the Aphasia Screening Test for screening aphasia problems in patients with cerebrovascular disease. The tool has a content validity index ranging from 0.80 to 1.00. It was experimentally used with three patients diagnosed by a physician as having cerebrovascular disease and without aphasia problem. After adjusting based on feedback, the complete version of the screening tool was then used to examine the validity and reliability properties of the instrument within a sample group of 28 patients diagnosed with cerebrovascular disease. Dividing into individuals with aphasia (14 people) and those without (14 people), the test results revealed sensitivity and specificity of 96.30% and 69%, respectively. The cutoff point was found at 43 points, with the highest Youden’s index being 65.30%. The tool demonstrates high accuracy, with a phi correlation coefficient 0.67 from statistical analysis. The construct validity, analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test, revealed a statistically significant difference in scores between both groups (p < 0.001), indicating the ability to distinguish patients with cerebrovascular disease who have aphasia from those without aphasia. Furthermore, the inter-rater reliability was assessed using Pearson's correlation coefficient (r=0.99), indicating an excellent level of agreement. Additionally, the internal consistency was evaluated using Cronbach's alpha coefficient, yielding a value of 0.97 (95% CI, 0.95-0.98), which is considered excellent. In conclusion, the Aphasia Screening Test demonstrates validity and reliability and is suitable for clinical use in screening aphasia in patients with cerebrovascular disease. |
