Abstract: ABSTRACT Work values are crucial for helping organizations characterize productive work. This descriptive comparative study aimed to study the level and compare the work values of Generation Y and Generation X registered nurses at Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital. The sample consisted of 368 registered nurses from both generations working under the nursing division at Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital. The research instrument is the Work Values Measurement Form with a reliability is .908. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and 2-group means test statistics, Mann-Whitney U test. The results revealed that the work values of Generation X nurses demonstrated importance at a high level, namely, 1) the stimulus aspect and 2) the power aspect, and the values at work that had importance at a medium level were 1) self-direction, 2) conformity, 3) tradition, 4) achievement, 5) universalism, 6) safety, 7) hedonism, and 8) benevolence. On the other hand, Generation Y nurses demonstrated importance to work values at a high level, namely 1) power, 2) tradition, 3) stimulation, and 4) conformity. The work values that were given moderate importance were 1) security, 2) achievement, 3) self-direction, 4) universalism, 5) benevolence, and 6) hedonism. It was also found that Generation X nurses had statistically significantly lower work values in conformity and values in tradition work than those of Generation Y nurses (p < 0.05) for the value of working in universalism, self-direction, stimulation, benevolence, and the hedonism aspect was significantly higher than Generation Y nurses (p < 0.05). The study findings can be used as information for planning the development of staff in each generation to achieve success in their work.
