Abstract: The objectives of this independent study were to study happiness levels, to compare the happiness and to study the factors affecting happiness at work of Generation X and Generation Y operating employees in private manufacturing businesses in Chiang Mai Province. The data from this study was collected from 200 people, divided into 100 people of Generation X or those who were born between 1965 and 1977 and 100 people of Generation Y or those who were born between 1978 and 1998. The tool to collect the data was questionnaire and the results were statistically analyzed by SPSS program: frequency, percentage, mean, Independent Sample t-Test and Multiple Regression Analysis. The results of the study showed that the average overall opinion levels on happiness at work of Generation X and Generation Y were at the high level (x̅ =3.83 and x̅ =3.81). Generation X employees ranked the 11 domains in the following order: recognition (x̅ =4.05), achievement (x̅ =4.02), the work itself (x̅ =3.98), salary (x̅ =3.94), responsibility (x̅ =3.90), working conditions (x̅ =3.79), job security (x̅ =3.72), interpersonal relationship with superiors(x̅ =3.71), company policy and administration (x̅ =3.71), interpersonal relationship with subordinates (x̅ =3.50) and possibility for growth (x̅ =2.51). Generation Y employees ranked the 11 domains in the following order. achievement (x̅ =4.16), recognition(x̅ =4.09),the work itself(x̅ =4.04), salary(x̅ =3.94), responsibility (x̅ =3.92), company policy and administration (x̅ =3.77), job security (x̅ =3.74), interpersonal relationship with subordinates (x̅ =3.72), interpersonal relationship with superiors (x̅ =3.70), working conditions (x̅ =3.67) and possibility for growth (x̅ =2.64). From the comparison between the overall happiness at work of Generation X and Generation Y, it was found that there was no significant difference between the overall happiness of Generation X and Generation Y (Sig.= 0.812). From Multiple Regression Analysis to statistically study the relationship between the factors affecting happiness at work and the overall happiness on the work of Generation X and Generation Y operating employees, it was found that the factors affecting the overall happiness at work of Generation X consisted of 2 domains: working conditions (Beta = 0.300) ranked the highest effect on overall happiness at work, and interpersonal relationship with subordinates (Beta = 0.171) ranked the second. The forecast ability was at 48.6% (Adjusted R Square = 0.486). It was also found that the factors affecting the overall happiness at work of Generation Y was job security (Beta = 0.336) with the forecast ability of 35.6% (Adjusted R Square = 0.356).
