Abstract: The problem of game behavior in early adolescents is increasing, which has effects on physical and mental health, including family and society. This quasi-experimental study aimed to investigate the effect of a blended motivation interviewing and problem-solving therapy program on game addiction behaviors among early adolescents. The sample included 24 early adolescents with game addiction behaviors in secondary schools. The instruments consisted of 1) personal information questionnaires; 2) the Gaming Addiction Test (GAST); and 3) the blended motivation interviewing and problem-solving therapy program developed by the researcher based on the problem-solving concept of D'Zurilla and Nezu (2010) and the motivation interviewing concept of Miller and Rollnick (2002). This program consisted of six sessions, 60 - 90 minutes, twice a week. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics: means, dependent t-test, and independent t-test. Results of the research revealed that: 1. The mean score of game addiction behavior among the experimental group, at 1 month after treatment (x ̅= 16.33, SD = 4.96) was lower than before treatment (x ̅ = 27.83, SD = 4.26) with statistical significance (p < .01). 2. The mean score of game addiction behavior among the experimental group, 1 month after treatment (x ̅ = 16.33, SD = 4.96) was lower than that of the control group (x ̅ = 25.92, SD = 6.50) with statistical significance (p < .01). The results of this study demonstrated that the blended motivation interviewing and problem- solving therapy program can create motivation to change the behavior of those addicted to games and can increase problem-solving skills which will help reduce the game addiction behavior of early adolescents. Therefore, this program may be used as an alternative treatment for early adolescents with game addiction behaviors.
