Abstract: First-time fathers may be confronted with new situations, such as adaptation to paternal roles and taking care of their wives and babies, which may result in stress. This quasi-experimental research aimed to compare stress in first-time fathers between a control group and an experimental group. The samples consisted of 52 first-time fathers whose wives and children received services at the obstetrics postpartum ward, Health Promotion Center Region 1, Chiang Mai from March to July 2021. They were selected according to inclusion criteria and divided into control and experimental groups, with twenty-six in each group. The control group received routine postpartum care, whereas the experimental group received both a Social Support Program and routine postpartum care. The research instruments included the Social Support Program for first-time fathers, the Social Support Manual, the Telephone Collaboration with Line Application Follow-up Recording Form and the Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10) Thai Version (Wongpakaran & Wongpakaran, 2010). Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, Mann–Whitney U test and independent t-test. Results from this study suggest that nurse-midwives can apply the Social Support Program for first-time fathers to prevent and relieve stress during the postpartum period.
