Abstract: The objectives of this study were (1) to study the basic science process skill of grade 4-6 students, (2) to study the effect of Inquiry-Based Fieldwork (IBF) approach on the developing of basic science process skill of grade-5 students. The research was carried out in first semester of academic year 2020 at Ban Hauy Kong School, Omkoi Distriet, ChiangMai. The population of the first research objective were 74 grade 4-6 students. The research instrument is a total of 26 multiple choices basic science process skill test (0.20<p <0.80; r>0.15, KR-20 = 0.63) which was designed to measure skill of observing (4 items), measuring (5 items), classifying (4 items), data organizing and communicating (5 items), predicting (4 items) and inferring (4 items). Additional interviewing is also taken to support the quantitative data. The population of second research objective were 24 grade-5 students who took a science class taught by the researcher. The research instruments consist of 4 Inquiry-Based Fieldwork lesson plans (IOC > 0.80) and the basic science process skill test. The results indicate that, (1) the basic science process skill of grade 4-6 students were quite low (X-bar = 44.91%, SD = 4.57%). The Inquiry-Based Fieldwork approach helps increase students' basic science process skills at high level (Efiect Size = 1.76). The most developed basic science process skill was observing skill (Efiect Size = 2.02) and the least was classifying skill (Efiect Size = 0.61). The details are as discussed.
