Abstract: Central venous catheterization is an important and necessary invasive procedure for critically ill patients, which may cause the patient to be at risk of acquiring a bloodstream infection. This developmental study aimed to develop and assess the efficiency of the video media to aid nurses in the prevention of central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI). The samples used for developing and evaluating the efficiency of video media were 41 nurses purposively selected from the medical department of a university hospital in the northern region. The duration of the study was from May to October 2020. The study tools consisted of a video media design plan, a CLABSI knowledge test questionnaire, and satisfaction with the developed video media questionnaire, both were verified content validity by 6 experts. The content validity indexes were .98 and 1.0, respectively. The reliability of the knowledge test questionnaire was . 79. The suitability of the video media was checked by 3 video media experts. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-test, and the etficiency of the video media was tested according to Meguigan's standard. The video media length was 17 minutes 21 seconds and consisted of knowledge of CLABSI and practice guidelines for nurses in the prevention of CLABSI. The result of the efficiency of the video media showed that the mean knowledge scores of the samples after watching video media statistically significantly increased from 17.47 to 25.10 out of 30 marks (p < .01). The efficiency of the video media was 1.44. The samples were satisfied with the overall parts of the video media, the content, the design and presentation, and the benefit at the highest level with mean scores of 4.77, 4.72, 4.76, and 4.87 out of 5, respectively. The developed CLABSI video media is efficient and helps nurses obtain more knowledge which can be applied to promote knowledge and practices among nurses in the prevention of bloodstream infections for patient safety.
