Abstract: | Anthracnose disease caused by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides is considerable problem of harvested mangoes. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of using aqueous chlorine dioxide (ClO2) to control anthracnose disease under in vitro and in vivo conditions and its impact on the quality of ‘Nam Dok Mai’ mango fruits after harvest. The effects of ClO2 on spore germination and mycelial growth of C. gloeosporioides were studied. It was found that, ClO2 at concentration more than 5 mg/l completely inhibited spore germination and Its inhibitory effect on the growth of mycelium increased with the increasing ClO2 concentration. At 80 mg/l ClO2, the colony diameter was 61.85% inhibited when compared with the control. Using of aqueous ClO2 at 10 mg/l for 10 minute could effectively delay the expansion of black lesion diameter of inoculated mango fruit and mostly reduce the natural disease incidence of mangoes during storage. Using of ClO2, moreover, did not affect any changes of fruit quality including weight loss, firmness, total soluble solids content (TSS), titratable acidity content (TA), respiratory rate, ethylene production rate and color of mango fruits as compared to the control. Overall, concluded that ClO2 could be effectively used to control anthracnose disease in mangoes after harvest. |
