Abstract: | © 2020 The gadolinium calcium silico-borate glasses doped with cerium fluoride were synthesized by melt quenching technique. The density (ρ) has been measured using Archimedes principle and also molar volume (Vm) has been estimated. The FTIR spectra of these glasses showed mainly of [BO3] and [BO4] structural units. The optical bandgap energy (Eopt) were observed to decrease with the increase in CeF3 content. Polaron radius, inter-ionic radius and oxygen packing density decreases with increase in CeF3 content. Field strength increases with increase in CeF3 content. UV emission at ~372 nm was observed which showed complete energy transfer from Gd3+ ions of 315 nm to Ce3+ ions of 372 nm when monitored at 275 nm excitation. A red shift in their emission intensities were observed with addition of CeF3 content. Ce3+ (I) to the six-coordinated site and Ce3+ (II) to the seven-coordinated site were observed in these glasses. X-ray Absorption Near Edge Structure of Ce LIII-edge were investigated and the absorption peak show at ~ 5.728 keV confirming the presence of Ce3+. |
