Abstract: | © 2018, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. Autonomous vehicles (AVs) are fast becoming a realistic vision of the near future. With many technological advances being made, AVs are already in the testing phase in several locations around the developed world. This research project investigates the prospect of AVs in a developing country, specifically in the city of Chiang Mai, Thailand, where driving conditions are significantly different from those in the locations where the technology is currently being tested. A broad section of the public was surveyed to investigate awareness and opinions concerning AVs in general and concerning their use within Chiang Mai. The survey presented here finds a city interested in the potential of the technology, particularly the prospect of better safety. |
