Abstract: | The independent study title “Assessibility and Use of Information Communication Technology of Visual Impairment Students in The Northern School for Blind under the Patronage of The Queen, Chiang Mai Province” was aimed to 1) study use of information technology and communication of students with visual impairment, 2) study perception of use of information technology and communication of students with visual impairment, 3) study expectation of use of information technology and communication of students with visual impairmen, 4) study access and use of information technology and communication of students with visual impairment and 5) problems and obstacles against access to information technology and communication of students with visual impairment. The researcher applied a questionnaire to collect data from samples, namely students in Secondary Education Year 1-6, studying in academic year 2014, totaling 27 persons, by means of purposive sampling and snowball sampling. Data analysis is a kind of content analysis by verifying accuracy and completion to be classified as groups for analyzing and then summarizing based on scope of content set in form of description. The study result revealed that Accessibility and Use of Information Communication of Visual Impairment Students in The Northern School for Blind under the Patronage of The Queen, Chiang Mai Province is as follows: 1. The use of information technology and communication of students with visual impairment is for communication to their friends and others, research, data searching, and only game playing respectively. 2. Perception of the students with visual impairment is to perceive on information technology leading to actual use. The student perceived on advantages and use of information technology and communication. 3. For expectation of the students with visual impairment, the students expected on confidence of users or confidence of students in using which leads to efficiency of using and anxiety in using of computer in public area and on unstable network. 4. For access and use of information technology and communication, the students could access through hardware as computer and smartphone, and software as screen reader program allowing them to access. In addition, the network system they used is 3G. 5. The problems and obstacles against access to information technology and communication of students with visual impairment were found that there were many problems: problem of unstable 3G mobile network provided and slow speed of internet. For use of computer in public area, there was no the screen reader program allowing them to access. In addition, some website could not be accessed since it was not designed to support the use of the blinds. |
