Abstract

The purposes of the study of “Results of Corporate Social Responsibility Operation of Northern Petroleum Development Center, Fang District, Chiang Mai Province” were: 1. Toundertake a feasibility study to see if the implementation of the project and responsible social activities of Northern Petroleum Development Centerwill solve community problems. 2. To study the potential of building a positive image and to have the Northern Petroleum Development Center be accepted from the local people. 3. To study the suggestions about the project and responsible social activities of Northern Petroleum Development Center. This was a quantitative research which used the questionnaire as a tool to collect all the data needed from the people who live near Northern Petroleum Development Center, T. Maeka in Fang District, Chiang Mai Province. A total of 370 people were selected.

The conclusions of the study were: The local people who live near the Northern Petroleum Development Center agreed that the overall operation of this project and responsible social activities of Northern Petroleum Development Center met the demands and solved some of their problems (with an average score of 3.27): for example, noise pollution, air pollutants and water pollution. Although the supervisory authority had defensive measure it was not totally effective.Therefore, the Northern Petroleum Development Center should have more advisors to advertise and informlocal people about the effects of the center’s projects and further activities in Cooperate Social Responsibility (CSR). For the ability to create a good image and to be accepted by the local people,the result found that the sample thought positively to Northern Petroleum Development Center (with an average score of 3.30). For the suggestions regarding the implementations of the Northern Petroleum Development Center,the result showed that they (the center) needed to find new methods and strategies to carry out the responsible social activities to meet the needs of local people and to solve the community problems effectively in order to impress the locals and to improve their point of view of the Northern Petroleum Development Center. Finally, if they take CSR operation seriously and determine tocontinue makingprogress, it would truly result in sustainable development in the organization,community and society.
