Abstract: | The objective of this independent study was to explore employee opinion towards 5S activities of K. Power Metal Company Limited. Data was collected by the distribution of questionnaires, as a tool to collect data, to 198 employees of the studied company. The data obtained was then, analyzed by using descriptive statistic, comprising frequency, percentage and mean. The findings presented that most respondents were female, aged of 21-30 years old, with undergraduate level of education. Their work period at the studied company was less than 3 years and they were in the position of officer, affiliated to Production Division. Their opinion towards 5S activities of K. Power Metal Company Limited was ranked at ‘Agree’ level to all approaches showed in descending order as follows. In a cognitive approach towards 5S activities, the top elements being ranked were being the activities to improve employee quality, orderliness, and working security and to enhance customer’s reliability towards the company. In participatory approach towards 5S activities, the top element being ranked was having mutual collaborations from all involving sectors to get the activities accomplished. In an assessment approach towards 5S activities, the top element being ranked was the feeling of having cleaner and well-ordered working atmosphere after applying Seico/Shine, as the 3rd activity of the 5S activities. In an executive commitment approach towards 5S activities, the top element being ranked was the determinations of policy, objectives and targets as well as the clear explanation and communication to better the understanding of employees towards the practice of 5S activities done by the executives. In a training approach towards 5S activities, the top element being ranked was practicing 5S activities together with other activities such as KAISEN, ISO, LEAN to improve employee’s skills. In a perception of news release approach towards 5S activities, the top element being ranked was perceiving news through the company public relations media such as journal and announcement board. |
