Abstract: Mild cognitive impairment is a common disorder in the aging process during which the elderly will gradually suffer from memory loss. Regular memory training is one strategy to promote cognitive function and delay impairment. The purpose of this operational design study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a memory training program among the elderly with mild cognitive impairment, Pua District, Nan Province. The model of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO, 2012) was used as a framework for this study. The study was conducted during November, 2013 to January, 2014. Thirty elderly with mild cognitive impairment were purposely recruited and equally separated into experimental and control groups ensuring the similarity of age educational level and memory score. The experimental group was subjected to the Memory Program of Wilawan Chaiwong (2005), whereas the control group did not receive a memory training program. The instruments for data collection consisted of the Demographic Data Recording Form for the elderly with mild cognitive impairment, the Demographic Data Recording Form for the Health Care Team, a Memory Scale, and a Satisfaction Questionnaire for the Elderly and a Satisfaction Questionnaire for the Health Care Team. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results of this study revealed that: 1. The elderly with mild cognitive impairment who received the memory training program 11 from 15 (73.33%) had increased memory on the first day and all of them (100 %) had increased memory by the fourteenth day. Whereas 5 from 15 (33.33%) elderly with mild cognitive impairment who did not receive the memory training program had increased memory on the first day and only 2 from 15 (13.33%) showed an increased at the fourteenth day. 2. All of the elderly who received the memory training program were highly satisfied with the program . 3. All of health care team were highly satisfied with the memory training program implementation. The results of this study confirmed the effectiveness of the memory training program implementation for improving memory among elderly with mild cognitive impairment. It was suggested that the program should be used for promoting memory ability of the elderly.
