Abstract: This individual study is to create the symbolic meaning of contemporary Thai in contemporary art exhibition exhibited in Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, and to criticise the phenomenon reflecting the creation of relationship between contemporary art and the present society in social dimension, culture and Thai political contexts. This is to understand the process of art supportive system being controlled and dominant from Thai history that has influenced on Arts in Thailand by applying the theories of Jaques Derrida. The research also aims at understanding the meaning of contemporary art discourse happening in art public space among the diverse thoughts and lifestyles. The space of Bangkok Art and Culture Centre is the area exhibiting contemporary art that communicates about the contemporary society which is full of the controversy of lifestyles and culture. However, contemporary art exhibition has a clever sense of creating signs that have particular meaning relevant to the governmental regime. The art ideology under the governmental control and Thai contemporary signs have changed the traditional meaning of how the nation was created or become contrastive to the traditional artistic believes. Hence, art cannot completely isolate itself from its relationship between politics at large and politics in art related with space and time. The interleaved power in Thai signs is not stable that is to be called power temporarity. The creation of meaning of signs therefore become the tool. Thai state cannot freeze the meaning of signs which can be changable to negotiate with power. Signs is also paradoxical in its meaning because each set of knowledge explains that signs used by leading class cannot tack on themselves. The adherence of signs’ meaning become the controversy in creating signs’ meaning in Thai symbolism at the present.
