Abstract: | Care of patients with amphetamine induced psychotic disorders affect the caregivers’ physical and psychological state as well as their social and economic status. The impact caused cognitive errors and negative feelings to the caregivers themselves then effected for caring of patient with amphetamine induced psychotic disorders. A positive self-talk can help to reduce depression. This study was one-group pre-test/post-test quasi-experimental study aimed to examine the effect of a positive self-talk training program on depression among caregivers of patients with amphetamine induced psychotic disorders. The sample in this study was thirteen caregivers with amphetamine induced psychotic disorders and depression with mild to moderate levels who took the patients admitted into an in-patients at Suan Prung Psychiatric Hospital, Chiang Mai Province, between September - December 2015. Research instruments consisted of: 1) Demographic Data Form, 2) 9-Item Thai Patient Health Questionnaire (Thai PHQ-9), and 3) the Positive Self-talk Training Program was modified from a Positive Self-talk Training Program by Kwanjit Mahakittikun (2005), based on the concept of Nelson-Jones (1990). The data was analyzed with descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Matched Pair Signed-Ranks Test. The results of this study found that scores of the depression of the caregivers of patients with amphetamine induced psychotic disorders after implemented the Positive Self-talk Training Program was significantly lower than the pre-test depression score (p < .05). The results of this study indicated that a Positive Self-talk Training Program could help to reduce depression in caregivers of patients with amphetamine induced psychotic disorders in Suan Prung Psychiatric Hospital, Chiang Mai Province. Therefore, it can used to test for caring caregivers of patients with amphetamine induced psychotic disorders. |
