Abstract: | This research aims to study the effects of using Virtual Reality (VR) simulation on the Willingness to Accept (WTA) compensation among people affected by a new airport development and to assess the WTA value for potential noise impacts. The study employed a Double-Bounded Contingent Valuation Method (CVM) survey, dividing samples into VR and non-VR groups of 70 participants each for hypothesis testing, and collected additional data using VR in the projected impact area (NEF 30-40) of the proposed new airport. Results showed that VR usage significantly increased WTA values with a medium effect size (r = -0.44). Interval regression analysis revealed that gender, age, marital status, education level, monthly income, and noise intensity levels influenced WTA values. The average WTA was 1,583.19 baht per person per month. The study revealed that as noise levels increased, so did WTA values. When compared to low noise conditions, medium noise environments showed WTA values that were 54% higher, while high noise settings demonstrated a 101% increase. This research demonstrates the potential of VR technology in environmental impact valuation and can be applied to develop appropriate compensation policies. |
