Abstract: This research aims to determine the optimal production capacity for the installation of a solar cell system combined with an energy storage system, considering economic feasibility. It also presents appropriate energy management strategies for the employee housing of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand at Mae Moh Power Plant, Lampang Province. The research involved assessing electricity consumption behavior over the past year (2021) using data recorded every 15 minutes from 53 employee housing units comprising 654 rooms. The study evaluated the potential electricity generation from solar energy and calculated the feasibility for installing solar modules and energy storage systems through mathematical modeling and the Generalized Reduced Gradient (GRG) method, which is used for solving nonlinear optimization problems. The analysis revealed that installing solar modules alone resulted in the lowest overall project budget. In cases where an energy storage system was considered, it was found to be unsuitable due to high costs, resulting in minimal savings on electricity bills. Therefore, it is recommended to install only as much capacity as necessary to meet peak demand. Furthermore, a survey was conducted to understand the electricity consumption behavior of employees. It was found that the highest electricity usage occurred at night, while some consumption persisted during the day due to families residing in the housing units. Based on this data, the study presents energy management strategies to enhance solar energy utilization, offering four management approaches: Peak Shaving, firm, load shifting, and backup power.
