Abstract: This is a quasi-experimental study with two-group, pretest-posttest design. The study aimed to compare rehabilitation practice scores of family caregivers for intermediate-stage patients with impaired mobility in the community, before and after receiving the empowerment program, and to compare rehabilitation practice scores of family caregivers for intermediate-stage patients with impaired mobility between the group receiving 6-week empowerment program and the group receiving regular care program. There participants were fifty who were family caregivers of intermediate-stage patients with impaired mobility in the community and assigned to an experimental group (n=25) and a control group (n=25). The research was conducted from January to March 2024. The research instruments consisted of 1) the empowerment program that developed by the researcher based on the empowerment theory by Gibson (1995); 2) Media package including a handbook, posters, clip video via group line on rehabilitation practices with the following content; assessment of stiff joints, joint and muscle exercise, and posture arrangement of intermediate-stage patient with impaired mobility in the community and; 3) an observation form for rehabilitation practice for intermediate-stage patients with impaired mobility in the community which was verified for content accuracy by six experts and the content validity index was 0.90 and Cohen’s kappa coefficient was 0.84. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, pair t-test, and independent t-test. The results revealed that the experimental group had higher practice scores for intermediate-stage patients with impaired mobility in community than before receiving the empowerment program and higher than those of the control group who receiving the regular program with the statistical significance (p = 0.000). The results revealed that the family caregiver’s empowerment program on rehabilitation practices in intermediate stage patients with mobility impairment in the community can be used as a guideline for community nurse practitioners, care manager and health care teams to empowering family caregivers’ competencies to provide rehabilitation practices in intermediate patients with mobility impairment in the community effectively.
