Abstract: | At present, there is a quest for novel protein sources to potentially substitute conventional animal-derived proteins in the future. Proteins sourced from non-animal origins like insects or bamboo worms (Omphisa Fuscidentalis) are gaining interest among consumers. However, the lifecycle of bamboo worms spans up to a year, with moths laying eggs just once annually, which might not adequately meet demand. To address this, the discovery of insect hormones, specifically juvenile hormones, has been pivotal in shortening the bamboo worm's lifecycle to approximately six months. Nonetheless, the use of insect hormones could pose long-term repercussions. Shortening the moth's lifecycle to six months significantly affects their ability to breed and lay eggs when environmental conditions fluctuate, particularly during off-seasons, due to temperature and humidity variations in the summer. Consequently, this prompted the development of controlled environment chambers for bamboo worm breeding and egg-laying, alongside research into energy consumption across different appliance to evaluate electricity usage patterns, rates, and formulate mathematical models for humidity and temperature control in the system. This research's fundamental principles are derived from natural bamboo forest conditions. The control system comprises temperature and humidity control, with simulated Climate Control Room subdivided into environmental chambers, Mating and Laying room, and Bamboo moth cages. Throughout the study, various parameters like internal Mating and Laying room temperature and humidity, as well as electricity consumption, were meticulously documented. Following the study and experimental setup of the climate control system to regulate temperature and humidity within the Mating and Laying room, the system functioned as intended, maintaining humidity levels within ± 5% RH and temperature within ± 3 °C. Monthly electricity consumption stood at 1668 kWh, computed based on the progressive electricity rate, totaling 7,149.43 Baht monthly for operating the climate control system suitable for bamboo moths. Mathematical modeling revealed that control temperature in the moth Mating and Laying room required 12.004 s and 19.290 s for optimal breeding and egg-laying conditions. Additionally, humidity control results between control type 1 and 2 indicated that achieving suitable humidity levels for breeding and egg-laying took approximately 5.766 seconds for control type 1 and 6.904 seconds for control type 2. |
