Abstract: | This study integrates "hybrid geographies" and "political ecology" to comprehensively examine the human-nature relationship and the political dimensions of environmental knowledge and governance. Additionally, it critically assesses government-led development endeavors such as the Mukdahan Special Economic Zone. This dissertation seeks to analyze the contextual factors contributing to contemporary environmental crisis through a multidisciplinary approach. By considering various dimensions of environmental governance, it aims to move beyond dualistic perspectives and emphasize the interconnectedness of the natural and social realms, facilitating a more integrated understanding of environmental dynamics. This thesis consequently outlines three key objectives: 1) to study hybrid geographies of “sugarcane” in the Mukdahan Special Economic Zone 2) to study the power relationships of the sugarcane network in the Mukdahan Special Economic Zone. The study's findings demonstrate how the co-construction of human and non-human actors has influenced the nature-culture of the sugarcane network in Mukdahan Province, leading to a reconfiguration of power dynamics. This process is contextualized within the neoliberalization of the Mukdahan sugarcane network, aimed at facilitating the accumulation by dispossession. |
