Abstract: A quasi-experimental study, with two-group, pretest–posttest design aimed to study the effect of an empowerment program on the COVID-19 prevention practices of village health volunteers. The participants were fifty village health volunteers who worked in the sub-district health promoting hospital in Jun district, Phayao province. The participants were selected by purposive sampling and assigned to an experimental group (n=25) and a control group (n = 25). The research was conducted over a 4-week period, from March to April 2022. The research instruments consisted of 1) an empowerment program on COVID-19 prevention practices for village health volunteers; 2) a guidebook on COVID-19 prevention practices for village health volunteers; and 3) a questionnaire on COVID-19 prevention practices for village health volunteers which was verified for content accuracy by six experts and the content validity index was 0.92 and a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was 0.89. Descriptive statistics, paired t-test, and independent t-test were used to analyze data. The results revealed that the experimental group had mean scores for COVID-19 prevention practices at the highest level (X=4.59, SD=0.27); higher than before receiving the empowerment program, at a high level (X=3.53, SD=0.17); and higher than those of the control group, at a high level (X=3.55, SD=0.29) with statistical significance (p<0.001). The findings can be used as guidelines to promote community nurses and health care teams to support the empowerment of village health volunteers to utilize effective and efficient COVID-19 prevention practices. They can also be used to prevent the infection of oneself and of those in the community.
