Abstract: A lack of breastfeeding experience in first-time mothers undergoing cesarean section may affect self-confidence in the ability to breastfeed her infant leading to unsuccessful exclusive breastfeeding. The purpose of this quasi-experimental research was to compare the rates of exclusive breastfeeding among the experimental group, who received the Self-efficacy Enhancement Program via Electronic Media on Breastfeeding and routine nursing care, and the control group who received routine nursing care. The participants were 44 first-time mothers undergoing cesarean section admitted into the postpartum ward at Nakhon Phanom Hospital, Nakhon Phanom Province, from March to September 2022. The participants were selected according to the inclusion criteria and evenly distributed into a control group and an experimental group with 22 per group, matched according to age and breastfeeding self-efficacy score. The research intervention instruments consisted of 1) the Self-efficacy Enhancement Program via Electronic Media on Breastfeeding, 2) the Telephone Collaboration with LINE Application Follow-up Recording Form, and 3) the Breastfeeding Self-efficacy scale short-form Thai Version by Jintrawet, Somboon, and Tongswas (2009). The data collection instruments included 1) the Personal Data Record Form, and 2) the Breastfeeding Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Fisher’s exact test, Chi-square test, and Mann-Whitney U test. The finding of this study revealed that first-time mothers undergoing cesarean section in the experimental group had statistically significant higher exclusive breastfeeding rates than those of the control group (p < .05). The results of this study suggest that nurse-midwives can use the Self-efficacy Enhancement Program via Electronic Media to promote breastfeeding among first-time mothers undergoing cesarean section.
