Abstract: The objective of this research was to study the job embeddedness of temporary employees of Research Institute for Health Sciences, Chiang Mai University (RIHES, CMU). The data were collected by using the questionnaire on 3 factors of job embeddedness which were Fit, Links and Sacrifice and sub-factors consisting of 1) Fit to organization 2) Fit to community 3) Links to organization 4) Links to community 5) Organization-related sacrifice and 6) Community-related sacrifice. The questionnaires were distributed to the entire population of the study; 122 employees of the Research Institute for Health Sciences, Chiang Mai University. The data analysis was conducted by using frequency, percentage and means. Most questionnaire respondents were single females aged 31-40 years old with highest education of bachelor’s degree. Most of them are practitioner staff with average monthly income between 10,001-20,000 baht and more than 6 years of employment period. The study results indicated that the level of the 6 sub-factors of job embeddedness of RIHES employees were 1) Fit to community 2) Fit to organization 3) Links to organization 4) Community-related sacrifice 5) Organizational-related sacrifice and 6) Links to community, respectively. When analyzing the differences between practitioner staff and professional staff, the results were slighlly different. The professional staff had average level of the 6 sub-factors of job embeddedness as Fit to community, followed by Fit to organization, Community-related sacrifice, Links to organization, Organization-related sacrifice and Links to community, respectively. As for practitioner staff, they had average level of the 6 sub-factors of job embeddedness as Fit to community, followed by Fit to organization, Links to organization, Community-related sacrifice, Organization-related sacrifice, and Links to community, respectively. This implied that the reason why the employees have continued working at the institute was not only because of the organization factors or the job factors, but other factors also make them continue to work with the organization accordingly.
