Abstract: Under the changing of aging population structure to aging society in accordance with the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) system, Thailand encountered with the critical problems of rapidly growing number of patients and health services including the congestion and logistics management problems in the hospital in which it affected the healthcare service levels of hospitals. The purpose of this study was to analyze the hospital logistical problems focusing on mobility in the use of passenger elevators in a hospital building by using a developed demand simulation model based on survey data from the 1 5 -storey Sriphat Building located in Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital, Chiang Mai province. Data were gathered from personal structured interviewing of passengers using 6 elevators. They were patients, visitors, and hospital personnel. They were asked the purposes in the use of services of department/floor from the origin to the destination and the existence of users as well. The analysis of elevator traffic data showed the number of users and pattern of mobility in each time periods were peak at 9:00 to 10:00 and the most users used the elevators for lifting up with mobility of 1,349 times during the time period. These data were used for developing a traffic simulation model and indicated that the independent variables affected the traffic were the number of inclusive passengers and the rush of working days whereas the inclusive passengers and the use of wheel carriers affected on holidays. The variables affected on the attraction of trafficking were the number of inclusive passengers and rush of working days whereas the inclusive passengers affected on holidays. The results of model developing of traffic distribution indicated that the friction factor had a correlation with moving time in which it illustrated the distribution pattern of traffic distribution to the destined floor in a plot table from the origin to destination. This analysis was be able to use in the designing of simulation model of elevator using situations for improving the services of elevators in order to reduce waiting time in cueing lines and load of elevators. The use of simulation model via ARENA program found that the policy of classifying the elevators by the height was the best policy. Even though the services were reduced from 1,220 to 1,166 times in which it was decreased 4.4 % but the time of queuing reduced from 128.0 seconds to 118.90 seconds in which it was decreased 7.20 % and reduced the work load of elevators from 96.40 % to 94.32%
