Abstract: | Health promotion behaviors are actions that effect both physical and psychological health conditions. Appropriate health promotion behaviors among adolescent mothers result in good health. The purpose of this study was to explore factors predicting health promotion behaviors among adolescent mothers. The participants were 120 adolescent mothers aged between 13 and 19 years old, who attended Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital, Health Promotion Hospital, Health Promotion Center First Region, Chiang Mai, Lamphun Hospital and Lampang Hospital for postpartum checkups at four to eight weeks postpartum from June 2019 to February 2020. The participants were purposively selected based on inclusion criteria. The research instruments consisted of the Personal Data Record Form, the Health Promoting Behaviors Among Adolescent Mothers Questionnaire and the Perceived Self-efficacy Questionnaire developed by Juadnapa Sangsawang, Bungorn Supavititpatana, and Punpilai Sriarporn (2016), the Perceived Health Status Questionnaire developed by Priabgeaw Faramee, Punpilai Sriarporn, and Bungorn Supavititpatana (2019), and the Interpersonal Influence Questionnaire developed by Supaporn Nunta, Punpilai Sriarporn, and Bungorn Supavititpatana (2017). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and stepwise multiple linear regression. The results revealed that perceived health status and perceived self-efficacy were significantly predictive of health promotion behaviors among adolescent mothers at 70% (R2 = .70, p < .01), but interpersonal influence could not predict health promotion behaviors among adolescent mothers. The results of this study can be used as data for tailoring interventions in enhancing perceived health status and perceived self-efficacy to promote health promotion behaviors among adolescent mothers. |
