Abstract: In modern times, air travel has grown exponentially due to fast, convenient, and cost-efficiency performance. The expansion of the airport across the country has shown such trends are coming. Chiang Mai is one of the top tourist destinations of Thailand. At the Chiang Mai International Airport, the security checkpoint has endured passenger traffic congestion. Due to the space limitation, an x-ray inspection machine cannot be installed after checking in and must be installed at the entrance of the airport. It causes bottlenecks at the entrance of the airport terminal. Inspecting all baggage before entering the terminal building causes passengers delay. The waiting time during the terminal screening process is used as an indicator of service performance and passenger satisfaction. The objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of Domestic Terminal Screening in Chiang Mai International Airport using microscopic traffic simulation to measure the capacity of the terminal screening process. This study develops a microscopic pedestrian traffic simulation to model two scenarios. (existing condition and baggage separation condition) The simulation of the base scenario (existing condition) illustrates that the capacity of terminal screening Gate#3 is 420 pax/hr., terminal screening Gate#4 is 310 pax/hr. and terminal screening Gate#5 (single channel) is 320 pax/hr. ,terminal screening Gate#5 (double channel) is 660 pax/hr. The capacity is different due to the service time of the passenger. The simulation of baggage separation scenario showed that the capacity of terminal screening for small accessories is 560 pax/hr., terminal screening for backpack is 310 pax/hr. and terminal screening for a suitcase is 300 pax/hr. The capacity of the baggage separation scenario is higher than the existing condition, the baggage separation method increases the capacity of the terminal screening 120 pax/hr.
