Abstract: The study aimed to investigate the involvement of water user organizations in managing water resources in the Ping River Basin area of Chiang Mai Province. It also sought to examine the alignment between the participation of water user organizations in water management and the Royal Decree on Water Resources B.E. 2561. This research is a qualitative study that collected data through in-depth interviews and questionnaires with key informants, including representatives from water user organizations in the Ping River Basin Committee, representatives from water user organizations in the area, and local administrative organizations. The study findings revealed that the participation of water user organizations in water management in the Ping River Basin area of Chiang Mai Province involves cooperation at a level of collaborative partnership. Water users can participate by elevating water user organizations to be part of the Ping River Basin Committee. Furthermore, the participation of water user organizations in the area aligns with the Royal Decree on Water Resources B.E. 2561 and subsidiary laws. However, challenges were identified in the participation of water user organizations, including a lack of knowledge and understanding of integrated water resources management principles among water user organizations in the area. There is also a need for guidance on water management operations by water user organizations in the area. Therefore, the study recommends public awareness to highlight the importance of, and encourage participation in, water user organizations. Additionally, it suggests organizing water user organization meetings to share experiences, learn from operational lessons, and enhance knowledge and understanding among water user organizations.
