Abstract: | This doctoral thesis artwork “The Continuation of Life,” explores the impact of the rapid development of technology on contemporary art, especially the emergence of emerging forms such as new media art, Internet art, digital art, biological art, virtual technology, and NFT art, as well as the relationship between these forms and A fusion of traditional craftsmanship. This combination of art and technology has aroused widespread interest, changing aesthetic habits and affecting people's behavior. Among them, virtual art realizes the interaction between artists and audiences through interactive media, reflecting the social ecology of the virtual world and the new state of human existence. The artwork of this project aims to demonstrate the combination of new technologies and traditional craftsmanship actively. The artwork is a circular interactive installation with a diameter of 3 meters, which consists of a combination of two half-circles. The main frame is cast in stainless steel and hand-polished to give it a highly textured appearance. The “tentacles” of the work are made of ceramic and acrylic, with lighting and sensing devices added to create a bionic aesthetic. These elements give the work a soft and animated state that attracts the viewer's attention. In addition, there is also a video work at the bottom of the work, forming a field that extends into the space of the installation. By combining Kinect with the interactive experience of the video work, the audience can become part of the work. This form of interaction breaks the passive mode of audience acceptance in traditional art and provides a more personalized and immersive art experience for the audience. This interaction also expands new possibilities of artistic expression, enabling the audience to integrate into the work while enjoying it profoundly and feeling the positive attitude and beauty that the work conveys. The work triggers discussions and reflections on issues related to virtuality and reality. It conveys content that meets predetermined concepts and goals. The audience's evaluation and criticism also stimulate the exchange of opinions with the author, and these views are constantly changing under the influence of time, space, and personal factors. The combination of lighting installations and images embodies the new aesthetics of the project, triggering the audience to rethink the “real self” and “virtual self”. |
