Abstract: | The "Kru Doi: Altruistic Teachers Beyond Being Teachers" research aimed to understand meaning and essence of the experience of being an altruistic Kru Doi including conditions that supported the occurrence of Kru Doi's altruistic by using qualitative research methodology based on transcendental phenomenology study. The key informants were five teachers who were selected through snowball sampling together with inclusion criterions. The tools used in this research were in-depth interview method, non-participant observation along with interviews with secondary informants. The analysis technique used in this research was content analysis. The results revealed that the meaning of altruistic Kru Doi could be separated into 4 meanings including: 1) a person who had patience 2) a person who spiritually dedicated their life to be teachers without expect anything in return 3) a person who perceived value in what they had done, and 4) a person who was able to adapt to difficulties. Next, the cores of the experience of being an altruistic Kru Doi could be divided into 6 experiences which were 1) Working tirelessly 2) Self-abandonment 3) Being a supportive teacher 4) Being a producer as well as a developer 5) Bringing students to understand their value, and 6) Creating learning resources for students. For the conditions that supported the occurrence of Kru Doi's altruism, there were consisted of 2 conditions including internal condition and external condition. Firstly, the internal conditions were separated into two conditions as follows: 1) Adoption of personal role model's behavioral, and 2) Awareness of their own actual self. Secondly, external conditions were categorized into 3 conditions including: 1) Family support 2) Social and community support, and 3) Receiving a sense of belonging from the community. |
