Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study the factors of collective action and mobilizing strategies of the Omkoi Mining Cease Network in Omkoi Subdistrict, Omkoi District, Chiang Mai Province. This leads to the proposal of future conflict resolutions. The study used a qualitative research method by collecting documentary data and in-depth interviews with 17 leaders of the Omkoi Mine Cease Network and community leaders. The study found that social capital of strong kinship is a critical condition for the success of the movement. A clear framing has been established in relation to the survival of nature-dependent agricultural practices. There are strong leaders in the local movement that use various tactics both through normal and non-normal political channels. This research suggests that engaging local people in project development is essential to reduce conflicts that may arise from projects.
