Abstract: | The objectives of this study were to: 1) determine guidelines for community forest management by Karen ethnic groups; and 2) determine Karen ethnic groups' participation in community forest management and forest conservation in Ban Mae Mhee, Village No. 8, Hua Mueang Subdistrict, Mueang Pan District. This research is a qualitative research and interview forms were used as a data collection tool. Two types of interviews were conducted: in-depth interviews with three key informants, including community leaders, seniors, and community sages, and group discussions with five key informants, including community members. The findings of this study revealed that the guidelines for community forest management and forest conservation of Karen ethnic groups are derived from the way of life, cultures, wisdom and belief. This study found that the forest can be divided by belief in 2 types: 1) conservation community forests and 2) functional community forests. Furthermore, this study discovered that Ban Mae Mhee's way of life, culture, wisdom and belief lead to the rules and regulations for community forest management and forest conservation. It also has an impact on the process of community members participation. |
