Abstract: The purpose of this independent study was to study the level of happiness at work and compare the happiness at work of Generation X and Generation Y government officials in Chiang Mai Province. The data from this study was collected from a sample group of 200 people at the operational level, divided into 100 Generation X officials or those who were born between 1965 and 1977 and 100 Generation Y officials or those who were born between 1978 and 1998. The instrument used to collect the data was a questionnaire and the data was analyzed by using descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean), Inferential Statistics consisting of Independent Sample t-Test and Multiple Regression Analysis. The results of study showed that the average level of opinion on factors affecting overall happiness at work for Generation X and Generation Y was at the high level (x ̅= 4.15 and 3.99 respectively). The average level of opinion on 10 factors affecting happiness at work of Generation X were at the high level, namely achievement (x ̅= 4.24), recognition (x ̅ = 4.34), the work itself (x ̅ = 4.30), responsibility (x ̅ = 4.22), salary (x ̅= 4.25), interpersonal relationship with superiors (x ̅ = 4.08), interpersonal relationship with subordinates (x ̅ = 4.16), company policy and administration (x ̅ = 4.12), working conditions (x ̅= 4.08) and job security (x ̅ = 4.12), and 1 factor was ranked at the moderate level, namely possibility for growth (x ̅=2.65). The average level of opinion on 10 factors affecting happiness at work of Generation Y was at the high level, namely achievement (x ̅= 4.39), recognition (x ̅= 4.35), the work itself (x ̅= 4.25), responsibility (x ̅= 4.21), salary (x ̅= 4.16), interpersonal relationship with superiors (x ̅= 4.09), interpersonal relationship with subordinates (x ̅= 3.72), company policy and administration (x ̅= 4.02), working conditions (x ̅= 3.99), and job security (x ̅= 3.99) and 1 factor was ranked at the moderate level, namely possibility for growth (x ̅= 2.72). From the comparison between Generation X and Generation Y overall happiness at work (Sig = 0.428), the results of the study showed that the overall working happiness of Generation X and Generation Y government officials in Chiang Mai was not different. From the analysis of factors affecting happiness at work of Generation X and Generation Y using Multiple Regression Analysis, it was found that there was only one factor that affected happiness at work of Generation X which was working conditions (Beta = 0.511 ), with the prediction ability of happiness at work of Generation X at 21.7%. The one factor that affected happiness at work of Generation Y was job security (Beta = 0.597), with the prediction ability of happiness at work of Generation Y at 53.7 %.
