Abstract: | I started this research with the question how the inside reflects the outside and the outside the inside. During this research I focused more and more on my personal (recent) experiences and the move to another country. Because my personal experience became one of my focus points, I wanted to get an insight of where and what kind of boundaries there are between life and art. One of the psychical places that inspired me researching this is the home and when it becomes a house. I wanted to understand my definition of home, the home reflects our inside and makes part of our inner self visible. I had to understand my definition of "home", I had to understand where I came from. I started to look into my subculture in the Netherlands to search for interesting findings of what a home meant. Looking at my change of my home I also wanted to understand what the home meant (for me) in Chiang Mai. I got inspired by the spirit houses I see every day here in Chiang Mai. Something we cannot define as reality becomes a visible element in the home. rights reserved One of the conclusions of the research is that I see being alive as an inspiration to create. I live; therefore, I create. My final exposition is as a dairy of my art process, with the various elements where I create my work from, I try to capture the spirit of the moments. Many of these moments happen in the home. Since I moved to Chiang Mai, the home changed and because of this I changed. I started to realize that the environment wherein I am present has a big impact in how I experience life. If we take a look at a home, the bed plays a central role in the home. When the bed is present in a house, we sleep at this place and if we sleep somewhere permanently, we mostly call it our home. The bedroom can be an incredibly private and sacred space for a human. The bed is also the place were, each night, our reality changes. We switch to our dreamworlds and leave our "real' lives behind. We are no longer present in the "outside" world. Instead, we inhabit our "inside" world, where our dreams become our reality. The inside becomes the outside in our dreams. I let my emotions inspire my art, I don't use the stories connected to the emotion. As a creator I captured the moment wherein I felt a strong emotion and started to work with this emotion. The narrative of the emotion I do not use, for me this is the boundary between life and art. The story I tell is the story of the emotion not the story itself. |
