Abstract

Objective: To study the severity of mechanical complications related to dental implants and implant restorations in patients of the Department of Prosthodontics. Faculty of Dentistry, Chiang Mai University Methods: A retrospective study of 53 patients, total 130 implants, whose had been follow-up after treatment from 1 to 5 years. Patients with implants and restorations on implants were: Removable prosthesis (overdentures, removable partial dentures supported by dental implants), Fixed prosthesis (single crown on implant, bridge on implant) from the Department of Prosthodontics. Patients will be examined on a form and recorded complications of the implant and restoration. Results: The result showed that most frequent mechanical complication was minor complication. Loosening of the implant screw and loss of filling material in the screw hole, were 39.2% and 38.5%, respectively. Based on the type of implant restorative, mechanical complication was most common in single crown on implant. Severity of mechanical complication were considered as minor complication, which was 43 implants or 33.0%, While major complication was found 9 teeth, representing 6.9%. Compared with type of restoration, there was no significant difference at P<0.05. Conclusion: Mechanical complications of dental implants and implant restorations in the Department of Prosthodontics Faculty of Dentistry Chiang Mai University, it can be concluded that incidence of abutment screw loosening was the most common in minor complication.
