Abstract: | In this research, the effect of external magnetic fields on morphology, crystal structural, energy band gap and magnetic properties of the iron oxide nanoparticulate (NP) films by the sparking process was studied. The iron oxide nanoparticles were deposited on a glass slide substrate by sparking off the iron wires with 0, 50 and 100 mT of external magnetic fields under room temperature and atmospheric pressure. The results showed that the iron oxide NP films were consisted of two layers. The first layer was uniform NP with the particle sizes of 253 nm films and the agglomerated particles layer in micro-scale on the uniform layer. The agglomerated particles of particles increased with increasing the external magnetic field. The crystal structure of the as-deposited iron oxide NP was identified both by Raman spectrometer and X-ray Photoelectron spectroscopy. It was found that the iron oxide structure was composed of FeO, Fe2O3 and Fe3O4. The γ-Fe2O3 was transformed to α-Fe2O3 after sparking under the external magnetic field. Additionally, the external magnetic field not only effect on the morphology and phase transformation but also has a direct effect on the energy band gap and magnetization of the films. |
