Thailand is located in the centre of the Indo-Chinese peninsula; its land area of about 514 000 km2 makes it the third largest country in Southeast Asia, after Indonesia and Myanmar. 1 The country is geographically and administratively separated into 5 regions and 77 provinces. In 2017, the population was estimated at about 66.23 million.1 The age structure has undergone dramatic changes within the past 50 years. In particular, it has been estimated that the proportion of the population 60 years or older will increase substantially, from 11.9% in mid-2017 to 15.9% in 2020. 1 |
