This research utilized qualitative methods to study the impact of technology on teaching and learning processes. This study provides a process focused evaluation, rather than a product focused assessment of outcomes. This paper summarizes the data collection methods, the analyses, and the results using an illustrative field study. The goal of the study was to understand the impact of mobile wireless technology (MWT) on teaching and learning processes in higher education classrooms. The data collection included classroom observations, student opinion surveys, student focus groups, and instructor opinion surveys and interviews. Qualitative results related to teaching and learning processes are discussed in five areas: (1) instructional strategies, (2) student engagement and student activities, (3) technology use, (4) assessment, and (5) interactions. The paper provides instructors and decision makers a means for examining and evaluating the impact of technology programs on teaching and learning processes. © 2006 IEEE.en_US
