Abstract

This is an independent that studies the patterns and processes for success in protecting the community from drug problems. The purpose is to analyse the patterns and processes that lead to success in preventing at Baan Dokbua village from illicit drug. Under the social context of lifestyle and culture of indigenous communities, the work collected information from gathering documents, doing interviews, conducting focus groups, observation, arranging participatory and non-participatory activities, and implementing indepth personal interviews. Content analysis was applied for making breaking down the results. The use of patterns and processes were made within the guidelines for preventing and solving community problems. The mechanisms that have community potential were the following: 1. A form of community self-reliance. The use of existing resources in the community or social capital is defined in the operating process as followed: 1.1 The participation of community members. This is done by sharing ideas on the occuring problem. Also, there is a joint implementation on the plan, activities, and evaluation. Furthermore, there are co- benefits by bringing together the temples, homes, and schools as the method for development. 1.2 The application of kinships. This is an intimately familiar feeling among participants, as they pool their caring efforts to help correct any improper conduct of community members and parents of each family. 1.3 The strengthening of community leaders to play a role. By modifying the concept of community in new ways and in carrying the community activities, the campaign defence members gain a better sense of their task and ara able to overcome the hardship of fighing against illegal drugs. The use of power on part of the community organizations will lead to a better existing community, thus causing learning and self-reliance for building a model community.

2. The management style of government agencies and organizations involved in anti-drug trafficking. Enhancement was made through all sectors in the local government units and government agencies undergoing a joint process to help promote development. Staff working through the government agencies was able to help the community and support the policy of the projects.
