Abstract

A research on readiness for adaptation of medium and small contractors in Chiang Mai for entering ASEAN economic community (AEC) by surveying and interviewing 66 contractors who based their operations in Chiang Mai. The questions were asked about the readiness and preparedness for main 7 factors including languages, time, supply, demand, quality standards, capital and logistics. After that the results were examined by questionnaire and interpreted by percentages, arithmetic means, and standard deviation. The results show that they had moderate understandings about AEC. The labor wages would be affected as a major concern following by increasing of business rivals. The works were needed to be improved in both quality standards and cost reduction in both construction-related costs and logistics costs. For self-assessment, universality, costs, logistics, quality standards were defined as high level. As for the factors affecting the present marketing operations, an overall picture shown medium readiness level but there will be improvement to be high level in the future, which differs in every aspects. Factors concerning engineering techniques had an overall high readiness level. Administrative factors had an overall high readiness level as well as financial factors.
