Abstract: This independent study aimed to comprehend roles of parents in mathematics learning of PrathomSuksa 4 (grade 4) students in Ban Nongkeaw School, Chiang Mai Province. The participants were parents of PrathomSuksa 4/1 students in Ban Nongkeaw School, Chiang Mai Province (totally 36 persons), in orderto response to the questionnaire. The researcher selected the focused group from the participants, considering being parents ofhigh, average, and low achievers, 3 persons per each achievement level (totally 9 persons), in order to be interviewed. Data collection was carried out for six weeks in the first semester of academic year 2014. Theresearcher analyzedthe data from thequestionnaire by using percentages and averages. Thedata from interviewswas analyzed by using descriptive analysis. This study found that the parents (n = 36)had roles in learning mathematics of the students according to Cai’s frameworks (2003) as follows: 1). The Motivator 2). The Monitor 3). The Mathematics Content Advisor 4). The Mathematics Learning Counselor,and 5). The Resource Provider. The data from interviews revealedthat parents of high achieverstook a major role as The Mathematics Content Advisor.Parents of average achieverstook a major role as The Monitor. Finally, parents of low achievers took a major role as The Motivator.
