Abstract: | This study was aimed to determine dental caries status and identify factors that are associated with in children aged 3 – 5 years old in the Sweet Enough child care center, Sop Prap district, Lampang province. The population of the study, 155 children were collected by (1) survey the status of dental caries by dmft index in deciduous teeth (2) self-reported questionnaires were conducted among their parents (3) interview caregivers and educators in local government in the Sweet Enough Child Care Center and (4) In-depth interview parents on important issues. Data were analysed by descriptive statistics and correlation analysis by Chi-square test and Fisher’s exact test. The results of this study showed that the caries prevalence of deciduous teeth was 58.1% the mean dmft was 3.01 teeth per person. The significant (p < 0.05) of factors associated with dental caries in this study were (1) milk consumption (2) the habits of bottle feeding (3) oral health care practices (4) dental services utilization and (5) education level of the parents. Howevers, most of the samples were stop from the bottle feeding before started at the child care center and continue to drink fresh milk. More than half of the samples more never dental services utilization. The results of this study indicated that dental caries in preschool children has been still the problem in the Sweet Enough Child Care Center. Parents were less awareness of these habits, intake consume, sweet drink, allowed them to consume milk from a bottle and never dental services utilization. So, the parents, caregivers and educators in local government, representative community leaders and public health officers should be concerned and use community participation approach in the Sweet Enough Child Care Center to decrease the incidence of dental caries in pre-school children and dental public health problems. |
