Abstract: | A study investigated the impact of COVID-19 outbreak news on herding behavior in The Stock Exchange of Thailand. The study examined both positive and negative news related to COVID-19 outbreaks from eight countries and the World Health Organization between November 17, 2019, and January 31, 2022. The findings revealed that COVID-19 outbreak news had a significant impact on herding behavior in Thailand. Specifically, news from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland had a notable influence. Moreover, negative news had a greater effect on stock market behavior compared to positive news. For instance, negative news from the United States, Singapore, and Switzerland, as well as announcements of increasing COVID-19 cases, affected herding behavior. However, only positive news from China impacted herding behavior in Thailand. The study also found that different business sectors were affected differently by the news. Positive news led to increased activity in the tourism and leisure sector, while negative news led to increased activity in insurance, transportation & logistics and banking sectors. |
