Abstract

Independent research on public participation in solving forest fire and haze problems in Doi Suthep-Pui Forest Area, Chiang Mai Province, aims to 1) Study the participation of the public in solving the problems of forest fires and haze and 2) Study the problems and obstacles of public participation in solving the issues of forest fires and haze. This is a quantitative research. The research instruments are questionnaires with a sample of 400 people, calculated from the sample size using Taro Yamane's formula at an error level of 0.05, which is derived from random sampling. The data collected from the questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including percentages, means, and standard deviations, using the Independent T-Test analysis. Public participation in solving forest fire and haze problems in Doi Suthep-Pui Forest Area, Chiang Mai Province, found that overall, there was low participation. The area with moderate participation was the benefit-receiving area, and the area with low participation was the operation, decision-making, and evaluation. Problems and obstacles to public participation in solving forest fire and haze problems in Doi Suthep-Pui Forest Area Chiang Mai Province found that most people thought that there were moderate problems and obstacles. The most problematic issue was the problem and obstacles of lack of equipment to help manage the forest fire and haze problem in the area. The least problem and obstacle was the problem and obstacle of public participation in solving the forest fire and haze problem together with local people.

The relationship between personal data and the level of public participation in solving the forest fire and haze problem in the Doi Suthep-Pui forest area, Chiang Mai Province, which was statistically significant at the 0.05 level, included the relationship between gender and participation in decision-making and participation in operations, the relationship between age and participation in decision-making, participation in operations and participation in receiving benefits, the relationship between education level and participation in decision-making, participation in receiving benefits and participation in evaluation, the relationship between occupation and participation in decision-making, participation in operations, participation in receiving benefits and participation in evaluation, the relationship between household income and participation in decision-making, participation in receiving benefits and participation in evaluation, the relationship between place of residence and participation in decision-making and participation in evaluation.
