Abstract: | This dissertation aims to: 1) Study the context of mural paintings in the Lai Kam Sanctuary at Phra Singh Temple, focusing on their history, stories, concepts, styles, techniques, composition, and identity of Lanna paintings, specifically the story of Sang Thong. 2) Create a 3D animation by synthesizing the knowledge gained from studying the mural paintings in the Lai Kam Sanctuary at Phra Singh Temple, using it as inspiration to create contemporary art. This is a creative art research. The researcher has studied related theories, research, and works of relevant artists, selecting the mural painting of the Sang Thong story as the research framework. Key informants are 4 experts and academics selected through a structured and specific method. The research tools used are: 1) observation, 2) note-taking, 3) photography, and 4) interviews. Data were analyzed using descriptive writing. The study results for the first objective reveal that the identity of the mural paintings in the Lai Kam Sanctuary depicting the Sang Thong story arises from the integration of styles from Siam, Burma, China, and local Chiang Mai elements, creatively imagined to produce distinctive characteristics. For the second objective, the exhibition of contemporary art created from this study fosters learning and extends existing knowledge. It connects with the perception context of modern viewers by utilizing new media technology, allowing them to perceive the identity and aesthetics of Lanna paintings. The knowledge from this research will benefit those interested in Lanna painting and the creation of mixed media art using 3D animation techniques. It serves as an inspiration for further development and dissemination of Lanna painting identity to a wider audience. |
