Abstract: | Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare bond strength between resin cement and sulfonated PEEK (SPEEK) after various surface cleaning techniques. Materials and Methods: One hundred and seventy-four sulfonated PEEKs were cleaned with five different techniques; deionized water, sonicated deionized water, 6%wt sodium hydroxide (NaOH), pure acetone and 10% Cocamido propyl betain (CAPB). Untreated PEEK was used as a control. Surface roughness, surface morphology and EDS analysis were assessed. The residual sulfuric acid was measured using Ion chromatography technique. RelyX U200 cement was bonded to every group; stored in 37°C for 24 hrs. SBS testing was performed using the universal testing machine. SBS data was statistically analyzed using One way ANOVA and Tukey’s post hoc test. Results: Sonicated Deionized water exhibited the highest SBS value however there was no significant difference to other groups. Acetone was the most effective cleaning technique to eliminate residual sulfuric acid on sulfonated PEEK. Conclusion: Pure acetone, sonicated water, 6% NaOH, and 10% CAPB could reduce the residual sulfuric acid from the sulfonated PEEK surface without affecting surface roughness, surface morphology, or SBS, between resin cement and sulfonated PEEK.
