Abstract: | The objectives of this independent study include: 1) to study the business environment of the cooperative store situated in the university; 2) to study the factor influencing the operational efficiency of the cooperative store situated in the university; and 3) to evaluate and compare the technical operational efficiency of the cooperative stores situated in the university. This quantitative research used the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) technique, in the form of computer program DEAP 2.1, as the analysis tool whereas the studied samples included the cooperative stores situated in Chulalongkorn University, Chiang Mai University, and Kasetsart University. Business environmental data of the studied cooperative stores were collected via the interviews with the cooperative’s personnel playing the role of policymakers which were the committee members and the managers, as well as obtaining the data from the cooperatives’ annual financial statements for six years, during 2015 – 2020. As the results, it was found that, for all 6 studied years, there was only one cooperative store which had an efficiency value equal to 1, under the model of Constant Return to Scale (CRS), reflecting 33.33% while the overall average value was 0.970. On the other hand, for all six studied years, there were two cooperative stores that had an efficiency value equal to 1, under the model of Variable Return to Scale (VRS), reflecting 66.67% while the overall average value was 0.998. The operational efficiencies from both models of CRS and VRS were very close indicating that all studied cooperative stores were efficient in their resource allocation with a score of at least 99.80%. |
