Abstract

A Feasibility Study on the Investment in an Excellent Diagnostic Imaging Center in Lamphun Province aims to analyze the project feasibility for decision to invest in the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine and system. This investment is the incremental part of the radiology department in the private hospital in Lamphun. The study used content analysis and qualitative analysis which depended on the information from primary (by the interviews) and secondary data. Findings were presented in four aspects; marketing, technique, management, and finance. This project’s initial investment is 28,013,400.00 Bahts. The results revealed that Net Present Value (NPV) was 16,454,321.12 Bahts at the 10% required rate of return. Internal Rate of Return (IRR) was 20.28%. Discounted payback period (DPB) was 6 years 4 months and 15 days. And Profitability Index (PI) was equal to 1.59 times. For this project, marketing opportunity and growth potential were found and matched to the hospital strategy that wanted to improve the attendance of complicated patients. However, the hospital should prepare the proper tactics to actualize this strategy. For example, pay attention to the dealing with corporate customers, mean to the hospitals who could send their patients to the Excellent Diagnostic Imaging Center for MRI scan. And should monitor closely because these hospitals could turn from the customers to the newcomers. According to the prediction, tendency of the MRI scanning was increasing as this was required by the doctors to make the accurate and precise diagnosis before making the treatment plans. This project located at Amphoe Muang, Lamphun. The project layout was designed using Process Layout pattern that matched to the service of the Center which focused on the flexibility and diversity between the service stations. The consumers may also move back and forth between these stations. In capacity analysis, this investment will be able to adequately support the next ten-year maximum demand which is about 4,208 cases per year. One radiological assistant technician should be added four working hours per day (6.00 pm - 10.00 pm) for overtime, additionally form the previous working schedule, in order to do the MRI scanning at least 12 cases in the working hours (8.00 am - 10.00 pm) effectively. After the working hours, this Excellent Diagnostic Imaging Center still opens to receive the emergency or urgency or extra cases.
